Microsoft is preparing Windows 10 October 2020 Update for release

Microsoft is making build version 19042.508 of Windows 10 available to test users in the Release Preview channel. Microsoft expects this to be the final build for Windows 10 October 2020 Update.

Windows Insiders running Windows 10 in the Release Preview channel will not get the update to version 19042.508 automatically, but will have to download it manually via Windows Update. Insiders in the Beta channel can get the Windows 10 20H2 update automatically and the same applies to business test users who can prepare for the release. Those users have been able to download the 19042.508 build since the beginning of September, although Microsoft did not yet speak of the final build and the company did not mention the name Windows 10 October 2020 Update at the time.

Microsoft reports that it is aware of a bug that causes Windows Subsystem for Linux to give the error message ‘Element not found’ at startup. A fix for this is in the works that should appear in a service release shortly.

Microsoft releases two major updates for Windows 10 per year by default, but the company previously made it clear that the October 2020 Update will not bring any new features, but should mainly improve performance. Also, users who do not have this browser yet automatically get the Edge on Chromium version. Microsoft released the November 2019 Update in the fall last year, which also hardly added any new functionality to the OS.
