Microsoft is looking at CoD: Cold War error that makes part of the game unplayable on Xbox
Microsoft has announced that it is aware of an error that players on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X may encounter while playing Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War. The error makes it impossible to play certain parts of the game.
According to Microsoft ‘some users’ on Xbox One and Series X may experience a so-called ‘Blackout Trial’ error after implementing the most recent update for the game. Microsoft is looking into the problem and promises to release more information later.
Multiple users make notification of the fact that they get a pop-up that says: Blackout trial has ended. It also states that they must purchase the full game to access Blackout, Multiplayer, and Zombie mode. The screen has the option to purchase the full version of the game, but it concerns players who have already purchased Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War. Players cannot get past this screen.
Blackout is the name of the battle royale mode of Black Ops 4 from 2018. It therefore seems that this error message has something to do with code from that game that apparently also found its way to the current game, Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War.
Call of Duty news site Charlie Intel writes that there is a workaround for this problem for now. Players affected by this issue are advised to go to Manage Game & Add-Ons and then select Black Ops Cold War. There you should check whether all items for the game are checked and installed. After that, the game must be restarted.
