Microsoft is experimenting with Bing ads in Windows 10

Microsoft is experimenting with showing Bing promotions in the Windows 10 search bar. These are ads that show users suggested search results before entering anything, such as links to recipes or exercise exercises.

These are display buttons with ‘Learn something new’ on them. The promotional block was spotted by Bleeping Computer, among others. Users can click ‘Let’s go’ in the block to open a page with suggested search results in the start menu.

The search results are about, for example, recipes, workouts or entertainment. The menu also shows a recommendation for the Edge browser. It is probably a test by Microsoft, although it is not known how widespread it is. According to Bleeping Computer, the promotions come from the Microsoft Tips app, but the site says it’s not clear whether that will disable it.

Microsoft has been promoting its own products in Windows 10 for some time. The company had stopped doing so for a long time, but has recently started to focus more on such promotions of, for example, its own Edge browser.
