Microsoft has canceled plans for ‘Xbox One streaming stick’
Microsoft was about to unveil and market an “Xbox streaming stick” earlier this year, but for an unknown reason, the company said it had to cancel at the last minute.
The sources of Windows Central state that Microsoft planned to bring the stick to the market shortly after this year’s E3 fair. At one point, the company was even on the verge of producing 300,000 copies. It’s unknown why the plans changed so drastically, but the source speculates it had something to do with the announcement of Project Scorpio, the 4k-capable Xbox One variant. It wasn’t originally going to be announced at E3, but due to the leaks surrounding the PlayStation 4 ‘Neo’, now called the Pro, Microsoft is said to have sped up its own launch process and this device had to be scrapped.
According to the sources, the stick, which is codenamed ‘Hobart’, would have a modest processor on board that would be powerful enough to stream Xbox One images indoors, as for example the Steam Link does. Also, this uwp apps could run as well as light uwp games. Since Microsoft’s streaming stick is said to be as good as finished, it cannot be ruled out that the company will decide to release it at a later date.
