Microsoft gives OneNote new features on desktop, web and mobile

Microsoft is coming with updates for the different versions of its note-taking software OneNote. For example, the web version makes it possible to add all kinds of media to notes, such as audio recordings and videos. iOS version users will get 3D Touch support.

The upcoming updates are outlined on Microsoft’s blog. In the new version of the software, users can record audio directly from OneNote and then paste it into an open note. This option is also available for iOS and should be further improved in the near future. In addition to audio, it will also be possible to link files with a note, although this feature is currently only available for the web version of OneNote.

For those who use the desktop version of the software in Office 2016, there is another new function: embedding online videos, such as from YouTube and Vimeo. For the time being, users must have a subscription to Office 365 to embed videos. Support for online video will be expanded in the months to come and will also be available for the other versions of OneNote, according to Microsoft.

For Android, Microsoft has developed a feature called the badge. It is a kind of widget that can remain stuck on the screen, so also on top of other apps. This should make it easy, for example, to quickly copy-paste things, including from web pages. According to Microsoft, it could take two to three weeks before the new feature is available to every Android user.

Finally, Microsoft has built in support for 3D Touch for the iPhone 6s series. For example, it should be possible to quickly create a new note. Furthermore, the iOS application should be able to handle the large screen of the iPad Pro better.
