Microsoft gives future vision for ‘modern operating system for PC’
Microsoft gave its vision for a “modern OS for modern PCs” at Computex, with the company surprisingly not mentioning Windows. Among other things, Microsoft wants the software to be able to switch effortlessly between WiFi and 5G.
According to Microsoft, a modern operating system should perform updates in the background without interruption. In addition, the software must be safe by default, with the basic components separated from each other. The company also wants the OS to be always connected to the internet, via Wi-Fi or 5G, and to maintain performance with a long battery life. Furthermore, thanks to artificial intelligence, the software must be aware of the user’s activities and help him do so. In addition, an OS must not only be operable via mouse and keyboard, but also with pen, voice, eyes and touch.
According to Microsoft, this vision is the foundation for the evolution of the PC ecosystem. It is striking that Microsoft does not mention the name Windows. According to rumors, Microsoft is working on Windows Lite as an alternative to Chrome OS and the company would consider not sticking the name Windows on this OS.
ZDNet doubts whether ‘modern OS’ has to do with Windows Lite. According to the site, Microsoft would still be working on this OS, which in turn would be based on Windows Core OS. This is, also rumored to be a kind of foundation on which various Windows versions can be based and which Microsoft is said to be working on under the code name ‘Santorini’.
