Microsoft equips Surface Pro 6 and Surface Laptop 2 with quad-core CPUs
Microsoft has announced the Surface Pro 6 and the Surface Laptop 2. Both products hardly differ from their predecessors in terms of design. New is the hardware, with Intel quad-core processors and the arrival of black versions.
Microsoft shows the new products in short videos on YouTube. The new Surface Pro 6 is almost identical to its predecessor, which Microsoft marketed as the Surface Pro 2017. With the new model, the numbering returns and the tablet is now available with quad-core processors.
The design has been adjusted on the inside, which, according to Microsoft, provides a better battery life. The manufacturer says that the device will last 13.5 hours. The 12.3″ screen is unchanged and the maximum memory of 16GB has not changed.
In any case, there will be a version with a Core i5-8250U, which was also apparent from a hands-on on a Vietnamese website. It is not yet known what the other configurations are. In the United States, the i5 model has a starting price of $ 899 and the device will be released on October 16.
Together with the Surface Pro 6, Microsoft announces the Surface Laptop 2. The 13.5 “laptop has hardly changed compared to the current model, just like with the tablet, Microsoft puts quad-cores in it of the eighth generation Intel processors. Configurations and suggested retail prices are not yet known at the time of writing.
Both the Surface Pro 6 and the Surface Laptop 2 will also be available in a matte black color variant. The housing of both products does not change. That also means that Microsoft will stick to its Surface Connector for charging and that USB-C connections are missing.
Finally, Microsoft presents the Surface Studio 2. Like the first model, the all-in-one has a 28″ screen with a 3:2 ratio and a resolution of 4500×3000 pixels. The Studio 2 will get faster hardware, Microsoft states that the device is 35 percent faster and has 50 percent more graphics processing power.
Microsoft does not say which GPU is in it, but it is a Pascal GPU from Nvidia with a processing power of 6 teraflops. That’s roughly equivalent to the GTX 1070, which hits 6.5 teraflops. The all-in-one contains a maximum of a 2TB SSD.
