Microsoft Employee Reveals Notepad Will Get Tabs in Windows 11
Microsoft plans to bring tabs to Windows 11’s notepad. An employee of the company said this in a tweet, but he should not have released it yet. The confidentiality of that update can even be seen in the screenshot.
The image shows the Windows 11 notepad, including two tabs. A red bar at the top of the window says ‘confidential; don’t discuss features or take screenshots’. Nevertheless, this employee did not let himself be stopped. The tweet was deleted shortly afterwards, but sites like Windows Central already had the mistaken tweet in mind.
It has not been announced when the tabs will come to the Windows 11 notepad. The next major Windows 11 update in which the feature could appear is Windows 11 22H2 Moment 2. According to Windows Latest sources that update is coming in January 2023. Windows 11 22H2 Moment 1 was recently released and added tabs to the explorer.
Microsoft has been working behind the scenes for some time to bring tabs to its applications. In 2017, there was talk that the notepad, explorer and Office in Windows 10 would already have tabs. However, that never became a reality.
