Microsoft Edge will follow Google Chrome’s four-weekly update cycle

Like Google, Microsoft will also switch to a four-week update cycle for its Edge browser later this year. Until now, the browser was updated every six weeks.

In a blog post Friday, Microsoft announced that it will follow Google in its four-week update cycle for Edge. The new update schedule will start from Edge 94, Microsoft writes. Earlier, the developer of Brave also told The Verge that they will follow Google’s new cycle.

For Microsoft Enterprise customers, there will also be an option to opt for an eight-week update cycle. That way, these customers have more time to manage the updates. Customers must indicate this themselves, as the four-week update cycle from Edge 94 will be standard.

Google announced last week that it would release updates every four weeks starting in Q3 2021. For the past ten years, it has been common for Chrome to be updated every six weeks.

According to Microsoft’s release schedule, version 94 of Edge is planned to be released the week of September 23, 2021. After that, a new update will appear every four weeks.
