Microsoft: Dev Channel Becomes Even More Home for Experimental Features
One of the heads of the Windows Insider Program states in a blog post that the Windows Insider Program’s Dev Channel will become even more home to experimental features that have a long lead time. Some of those ideas will never see the light of day.
“We will increasingly use the Dev Channel as a place to mature new ideas, or to work on features that have a long lead time, as well as to customize features on an individual level,” it said. through Amanda Langowskihead of the Windows Insider Program.
“Sometimes the Dev Channel will also contain ideas or concepts that will never make it to a final build of Windows,” the woman says. “By experimenting more, we believe we can further refine the user experience.” According to her, the builds that will appear in the Dev Channel are not necessarily a precursor to future Windows updates.
Users who want a taste of future Windows releases will find more to their liking in the Beta Channel, it sounds. In fact, because the development cycles between the Dev Channel and Beta Channel are similar, there may be instances where new features appear first in the Beta Channel instead of the Dev Channel, according to Langowski.
