Microsoft is reportedly delaying the release of the Surface Neo dual-screen tablet with Windows 10X to next year. ZDNet and CNBC report this. The Surface Duo dual-screen phone is said to be on track to release this year.

Instead, Microsoft is trying to make Windows 10X work properly on single-screen devices, CNBC says based on a single source. ZDNet says it may be Windows 10X features, such as running Windows programs in a container, that will be available in the regular version of Windows 10.

Windows 10X for dual-screen devices from other manufacturers would not be available this year either, according to ZDNet. The delay is believed to be related to the recent coronavirus outbreak, which has seen Microsoft shift its priorities towards virtualized environments and single-screen devices.

Microsoft announced the Surface Neo six months ago. It is a tablet with two 4:3 screens measuring 18.3×13.7cm with an area of 250 square centimeters and a diagonal of 9″, which together provide a screen space of 18.3×27.4cm with an area of 500 square centimeters and a diagonal of 13″. Microsoft has not yet disclosed a price and exact hardware details. The manufacturer has not yet commented on the rumors about the postponement.
