Microsoft delays live gameplay streaming feature on Xbox One until 2014
Microsoft has announced that live gameplay streaming functionality via the Twitch.tv site will not work yet once the Xbox One launches on November 22 in select countries. Gamers can however capture and upload recordings to the internal hard drive.
The now-released PlayStation 4 offers standard integration with Twitch.tv, a service on which live gameplay videos can be viewed as well as broadcast. Initially, the Xbox One would like to allow similar live broadcasts of gameplay via Twitch, but Microsoft has let on Tuesday know that the live streaming functionality will not work yet when the new console hits the market later this month.
Microsoft has not given a precise reason for the delay, but the company says it is working closely with Twitch to be able to offer the streaming gameplay feature on the Xbox One as soon as possible. The console builder hopes to have the feature ready in early 2014.
Despite the lack of live streaming support at the launch of the Xbox One, the console will offer the possibility to record gameplay footage of up to five minutes on the hard drive. These can then be placed on SkyDrive via Xbox Live. The Twitch app will also make it possible to view live gameplay footage of others.
