Microsoft has announced that the games Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo will keep their temporary exclusivity for the PlayStation 5. These titles belong to publisher Bethesda and this company is being acquired by Microsoft, raising questions about what would happen to titles.

Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft’s Xbox division, informed Bloomberg Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo will be released unchanged as an exclusive console title for PlayStation 5. In addition, Spencer says that games from Bethesda will be released for PC, Xbox consoles, the Game Pass subscription and possibly other consoles as well. The latter is considered on a case-by-case basis. It was previously indicated from Deathloop that the game would be released for the PlayStation 5 in the second quarter of next year and that the title would also be released for the PC during the same period. That remains unchanged.

It is not known how long Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo will be unavailable for the new Xbox consoles after their release for the PS5. Ghostwire: Tokyo will also be out next year. Presumably the exclusivity of these games for the PS5 will last twelve months, as is often the case with titles that are available exclusively for a specific console for a limited time. It is unknown what exactly is the exclusivity of other future titles, such as The Elder Scrolls VI and Starfield.

On Monday, Microsoft announced that it will acquire Bethesda for $ 7.5 billion, making it part of the Xbox Game Studios. That means Microsoft will acquire franchises such as Doom, Fallout, Wolfenstein, Quake, The Elder Scrolls and Dishonored. The acquisition is expected to be completed by the middle of next year. Bethesda is the developer and publisher of quite a few games and has a total of 2300 employees at various studios; they are all part of the takeover.
