Microsoft continues to support Games for Windows
Microsoft seems to continue to support Games for Windows Live anyway. The gaming service has long been suspected of closing its doors soon, including after the Marketplace was closed last year.
On Twitter, Andy Dudynsky, who works at Microsoft Studios as a community manager for Halo, know that support for Games for Windows Live will continue. No further details were disclosed. With the announcement, it seems that the many rumors about the discontinuation of the gaming service are not true.
Microsoft’s Games for Windows Live service offers game developers a variety of features, including multiplayer, DRM, and achievements support. There was also initially a Marketplace where users could buy games, but it was closed by Microsoft last year, probably due to a lack of interest. With the online store for PC games, Microsoft wanted to compete with services such as Steam.
The shutdown of Marketplace sparked rumors that the company may want to close Games for Windows Live altogether. As a result, several game developers have already stopped building in support for the gaming service. Games like Bioshock 2, Dirt 3, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II and some Batman games have been ported to Steamworks.
