During the Microsoft Build conference, the console builder admitted to looking for a way to make Xbox 360 games playable on an Xbox One. However, according to a Microsoft employee, that is not as easy as the console builder had hoped.

A Microsoft Build visitor questioned whether Microsoft plans to make an Xbox 360 emulator for the Xbox One during a Q&A session. To which a spokesperson for the console builder replied; “We do have plans, but unfortunately they haven’t been fully thought out yet. It turns out to be more difficult than expected to emulate the PowerPC on an x86. So we have nothing to announce, although I would like to see it happen.” The spokesperson did not reveal which technical solution Microsoft wants to offer when emulating Xbox 360 games.

Competitor Sony has already officially announced that it wants to offer the option to play PlayStation 3 games on Xbox One competitor PlayStation 4. Sony wants to stream PS3 games via the technique of Gaikai, the streaming pioneer who took over in 2012 . At the beginning of this year, Sony announced that it plans to use Gaikai’s technology for PlayStation Now, a service that allows games to be streamed to a PlayStation 4. PlayStation Now is beta testing in the US. Sony hopes to be able to offer the service in the summer.
