Microsoft plans to revive Age of Mythology. The company just doesn’t know the best way to do that yet. Microsoft is considering whether a reboot, remaster, or other option is best for fans.

Age of Empires creative director Adam Isgreen told PCGamer that he sees a lot of potential with Age of Mythology: “I just don’t know what we’re going to do yet. We’re going to think about it. We want to make our fans happy and if those fans want us to make a final version, we’re considering doing that.”

Isgreen reports that in addition to a Definitive Edition, a reboot is also possible, but also to take the game ‘a new direction’. Microsoft confirms on Twitter Age of Mythology, as a further hint that the company wants to take care of the game.

The latest version of Age of Mythology is the polished up Extended Edition from 2014, which also brought Chinese civilization to the game. The game originally appeared in 2002. Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition will be released on November 14 with crossplay support for Steam and Microsoft Store users. This version offers four new factions, three new campaigns and 4k rendering compared to the original. A definitive version of Age of Empires I has already been released and such a version of Age of Empires III is also on the way.
