In addition to the Fast Ring and the Slow Ring, Microsoft is introducing a third ‘ring’ for Windows Insiders. The Release Preview ring is for people who want to stay on the same “branch” of Windows, but want to try out updates and new features sooner.

Builds in the Release Preview ring will have a minimal chance of major bugs, Microsoft promises. For now, builds in the Release Preview consist of minor updates for the current version of Windows 10. Users in the Fast Ring, which now have weekly updates, and in the Slow Ring will already receive updates in the run-up to the upcoming version of Windows 10 , which is codenamed Redstone.

Users in the Fast Ring and Slow Ring can’t just go back, but have to reinstall Windows. The Release Preview ring will be available for the desktop version of Windows 10 and for Windows 10 Mobile. The feature will go live sometime in the coming weeks. Windows Insider is Microsoft’s program to let users test new builds of Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile and collect the feedback.
