Microsoft: bug can cause color problems with HDR screens

In Windows 11 version 21H2 there is a bug that can cause HDR colors to be displayed incorrectly on some screens. With the bug, white can be shown as a bright yellow color, or as a different color. Microsoft says it is working on a fix.

The bug appears to only affect certain image editing programs and some HDR displays, Microsoft says. The company does not provide details about these displays or programs. The problem is alleged to be in certain color rendering Win32 APIs, which ‘may display unexpected information or errors under specific circumstances’.

Color profile settings in Windows 11’s Settings menu should work well, as well as in Microsoft’s Color Control Panel, Microsoft says. The company says it is working on a fix for the bug; it is expected to be available at the end of January.
