Microsoft Begins Rolling Out End-to-End Encryption of Video Calls for Teams
Microsoft has started making end-to-end encryption available for 1-to-1 video calls in Microsoft Teams. The functionality was already announced in October for the chat and video calling service.
Microsoft announced the arrival of end-to-end encryption for Teams on Tuesday. The functionality will be available to all Enterprise customers in the coming days. As a user, you have to wait for the administrator within your organization to activate end-to-end encryption. Microsoft emphasizes that it may therefore take longer for some users before their conversations can be encrypted in this way.
The end-to-end encryption can only be activated for 1-to-1 conversations. In addition, some features are not available when encryption is enabled, including call recording, transfer, and merging.
The functionality was already announced last summer. Since October, users have been able to test end-to-end encryption via a public preview since October, but a full release has not yet been forthcoming.
