Microsoft appeals again against European fine
Microsoft is appealing the record fine of 899 million euros to the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg. This was imposed on the software giant by the European Commission in February for non-compliance with competition rules.
The fine, handed out by European Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes, was the largest ever in the history of the EU. However, Microsoft again seems to disagree with the penalty. “We are going to appeal to get more clarity from the court,” a Microsoft spokesperson said, without commenting on the matter.
The software company’s move to appeal again comes as a surprise. At the beginning of this year, Microsoft appeared to be cautiously approaching the European Commission and published technical information about its Office protocols. However, a competition expert tells the British newspaper The Guardian know that the software giant has nothing to lose and is therefore still appealing.
