Microsoft announces Chromecast competitor
Microsoft has announced the Wireless Display Adapter. This HDMI stick can display content from a mobile device with Miracast support on a television. The stick will first go on sale in the US and Canada.
Microsoft will take pre-orders in those countries from September 23 and start delivery in October. The price is USD 59.95, converted to EUR 46.50. This makes the stick more expensive than Google’s Chromecast, which costs 35 euros. The stick works in combination with devices with Windows 8.1, Windows Phone 8.1 and Android 4.2.1 and later versions. The smartphones, tablets or laptops must have Miracast support.
According to Microsoft, the advantage is that every app and content streaming can be displayed. Google’s Chromecast often requires support from apps. The Microsoft Wireless Display must be plugged into the HDMI connection of a TV and into a free USB port for the power supply. After choosing the right input, connecting should be easy, claims Microsoft. It is not known whether and when the stick will also come to the Benelux.
