Microsoft adds Timeline feature to Windows 10 Insider build
The latest Insider build of Windows 10 includes the Timeline feature. Users get an overview of their activities and can return to certain moments. It is also possible to switch devices and continue with an activity.
Timeline is available in Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17063 for users in the Fast ring. In a blog, Microsoft explains all the innovations and how the timeline works. The function can be accessed via Task View, which can be called up with the key combination Windows key and tab, or via the button in the start bar.
Apps must be modified by developers to work with the feature. There is also integration with Cortana and as a result Timeline should also work within some Microsoft apps on iOS and Android. The intention is that users can easily switch devices during their work.
Initially, Timeline should have come to Windows 10 with the Fall Creators Update, but that deadline was not met. The feature will now be made available to all users in the upcoming major update, codenamed Redstone 4, due out in Spring 2018.
The new Insiders build adds a host of other changes. For example, Microsoft Edge now supports Service Workers and the Push and Cache APIs. This allows the browser to display notifications in the Windows 10 notification center and refresh data in the background. The build also includes an option with which Windows automatically adjusts the scaling of apps. That should offer a solution for users of laptops that connect them to an external screen.
