Microsoft adds sensitivity labels to Office for Mac, Android and iOS

Android, MacOS, and iOS users can tag documents or emails containing confidential information in a number of Office programs. This label remains associated with the file even if it is shared between different devices.

The labels come in varying degrees, from ‘public’ to ‘highly confidential’. These can always be adjusted to the administrator’s preference. Depending on the label chosen, the document or e-mail can be watermarked, encrypted with irm and a header or pedestal with information.

Microsoft reports that only the MacOS version can currently use the labels in Outlook. Over the coming months, the functionality will be made available for Windows version, Office Online, and the Android and iOS versions of Outlook.

The user’s Office account must be a school or work account to use the labels. To activate the functionality, the organization’s current labels must be configured in the Office Security & Compliance Center.
