Microsoft adds sending links to phones to share menu browser on PC
Microsoft has made it possible for Windows 10 users to send website links from the browser on a PC to an Android phone. The link will then arrive as a notification on the phone where it can be opened in the browser or the Your Phone app.
That reports MSPoweruser. To use the feature, the Your Phone app must be installed on both the Android phone and the computer. Then PC users can forward the website link via the ‘Share menu’ of the browser by clicking on Your phone.
The browser must have integrated the Share menu of Windows 10. Edge and Firefox, among others, have support for that menu. After sharing, the user will receive a notification; when clicked, the browser opens the shared website. According to MSPoweruser, that link only opens in the Edge browser, but user Batman writes that the page also opens in the Your Phone app if Edge isn’t installed on the smartphone.
Your Phone, in English Your Phone, is a companion app to connect an Android phone to a Windows 10 computer. With the program, users can access notifications and photos from their phone, among other things, without the need for a physical connection between the devices. Microsoft is also working on a feature to mirror a phone’s screen to a computer.
With Edge on Android, it has been possible to send links to linked Windows 10 PCs since 2017. A notification about the shared page will then appear on that PC. When the PC user clicks on this, the page opens in the Edge browser for Windows 10.
This is what the feature looks like in the Edge browser, with your phone listed in the apps list. It’s the Share button of the browser itself, in the top right between the Add Notes and Settings buttons.
