Microsoft adds Antonov AN-225 to Flight Simulator and donates proceeds
Microsoft adds the largest aircraft of all time, the Antonov AN-225, to Flight Simulator. The proceeds from the DLC will go to rebuilding the plane, which was damaged during the war in Ukraine.
Microsoft writes that it will soon add the giant plane as a purchase for the Flight Simulator game. It is about the Antonov AN-225, the largest aircraft ever to take to the air and the specific model that is the only one of the series to ever fly. The Antonov AN-225, also called Mryia or ‘Dream’, was designed in the 1980s and performed its first flight in 1988. The AN-225 was based on the design of the first AN-124 Ruslan , but was larger and could also carry more cargo at 225 tons. The AN-225 was used, among other things, to transport the Russian Buran space shuttle.
Players can immediately fly the 84-meter plane in Flight Simulator on PC. The plane will be available on the Xbox at the end of March. There will be six different forms of the AN-225. In addition to a white model, these are also three versions of Antonov Airlines, specifically the models from 2006, 2008 and 2010. In addition, an Xbox Aviators Club and a normal Aviators Club version are available.
The Antonov is for sale as DLC in the game for twenty euros. The proceeds from this will go to the restoration of the original aircraft. The last remaining AN-225 was built shortly after the outbreak of war in Ukraine destroyed. The plane was parked in a hangar near Kyiv airport, but it was bombed by Russia. Since then there have been plans to rebuild the aircraft using the wreckage from the hangar and another model of the AN-225 that was never completed. Microsoft donates the proceeds from the DLC to that project.
