Microsoft acquires Wunderlist
Microsoft has acquired the Berlin company 6Wunderkinder. The company is known for the to-do-list app Wunderlist. The acquisition is part of Microsoft’s strategy to focus on mobile and cloud applications.
Two weeks ago there were already rumors that Microsoft was conducting takeover talks with the Berlin company. Now the acquisition is a fact, reports Microsoft. According to previous rumors, the purchase amount is between 100 million and 200 million dollars, converted respectively 91 million and 183 million euros.
6Wunderkinder is the company behind to-do-list app Wunderlist, which is available for Windows, iOS, OS X and Android, among others. Lists can be viewed from any device through the cloud functionality. First released in 2010, the app was named App of the Year by Apple in 2013; now there are more than 13 million users. Microsoft promises that the regular version of the app will remain free and the prices of Wunderlist Pro and Wunderlist for Business will not change.
Microsoft acquired several app developers last year: in December last year, the American giant bought the company behind the mail app Acompli, while in February it acquired the calendar app Sunrise. With the acquisition, Microsoft may want to integrate new features into its own productivity software, such as Outlook. That happened before: Acompli was converted to Outlook for Android and Outlook for iOS.
