Microsoft has acquired InMage for an undisclosed sum. That company is involved in backup options and disaster recovery. Microsoft uses InMage’s services for its Azure cloud platform.

Microsoft announced the acquisition in a blog post Friday. With InMage, the American technology giant wants to make Azure more attractive for disaster recovery, where it is important for a company to recover the infrastructure as quickly as possible after a human or technical error.

InMage offers companies the option to protect data on physical and virtual systems against crashes in one go. Microsoft says it acquired InMage because it is important for many of its customers to be able to quickly resume processes in the event of a system crash.

“Redmond” plans to leverage InMage’s technology in its Azure Site Recovery service, as well as make it available to customers across a wide variety of environments, including Windows, Linux, Hyper-V and VMware. Existing InMage customers will be able to migrate their data to Azure in the future, although current products will remain for now, Microsoft said.
