According to Microsoft, Windows 10 now runs on more than 75 million systems worldwide. It took the operating system a month to reach that number. It is not known how many licenses were sold.

The number of 75 million systems that are now running Windows 10 has been… announced by Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of Windows & Devices Group. It is not known in how many cases this concerns paid licenses, but it can be assumed that the majority of these are free upgrades. In that case, the figures show that many Windows users are willing to make the switch to the new version. Microsoft’s own goal is to equip 1 billion devices with Windows 10 within two to three years, but that includes PCs, smartphones, tablets, consoles and other systems.

Mehdi further disclosed that Windows 10 is installed in 192 countries worldwide and that 90,000 different PC or tablet models run the OS, including relatively old systems from 2007. He also claims that users have six times as many apps per device from the Windows Store. download as with Windows 8.

The growth in the number of users is difficult to compare with that of previous Windows versions, because of the free upgrade. Microsoft sold 40 million licenses of that software a month after the Windows 8 launch in 2012, compared to 60 million licenses in two months for Windows 7. In the long run, Windows 8 proved less popular: after 15 months, Windows 7 had sold 300 million licenses. while Windows 8 remained at 200 million after that period.
