Micron Releases PCIe 4.0 SSDs With Speed ​​Up To 6.6GB/s And Capacity Up To 2TB

Micron has announced a new generation of Crucial NVMe SSDs, the Crucial P5 Plus. The series of M.2 SSDs have a write speed of up to 6600MB/s, a read speed of up to 5GB/s and a storage capacity of 500GB, 1TB or 2TB.

The new drives consist of 176-layer TLC-nan memory that Micron develops itself, and Micron’s own controller, writes the brand in a message to investors, and should write up to 66 times faster and read 40 percent faster sequentially than the previous generation of Crucial SSDs. . The read speed of the new disks is 6600MB/s, the write speed up to 5GB/s. The previous generation of Micron drives, the Crucial P5, achieved a read speed of 3400MB/s and a write speed of 3000MB/s.

The Crucial P5 Plus has been tested on both Intel and AMD platforms and is also backwards compatible with 3rd generation PCs that support M.2 drives. On these older PCs, the drives achieve read and write speeds of 3300MB/s and 2700MB/s respectively.

The SSDs cost 110, 182 and 381 euros respectively for the 500GB, 1TB and 2TB variant and come with a three to five year warranty, depending on the total number of bytes written on the disks. In terms of performance, the P5 Plus SSDs are comparable to the recently announced Seagate FireCuda 530 series, which are built from the same nand memory from Micron, but use a controller from Phision.
