Micron is working on 128GB DDR5 modules based on 32Gb monolithic dies

Micron is working on 128GB DDR5 memory modules. This concerns a module with monolithic dies of 32Gb, which is mainly aimed at AI applications. The company has already delivered those modules.

Micron mentions this in its quarterly figures over the past three months. The company says it will soon expand its range of D5 DRAM modules with a new model. That is a 128GB module that consists of several 32Gb monolithic dies. The company already showed this earlier this year. The 32Gb dies should eventually lead to memory modules of one terabyte.

The 32Gb DDR5 dies are made using Micron’s own 1β process. That became 1-Beta technology used for the first time last year.

Micron says it has already delivered some of the modules to customers. They would use that ‘for their applications surrounding artificial intelligence’. Micron says it will see sales of that product for the first time in the second quarter of 2024.
