Chip manufacturer Micron announces that it will build a large chip factory in the American state of New York. The company plans to invest $100 billion in the plant over the next 20 years.

The new factory will be located in Central New York and should create 50,000 jobs according to Micron. The mega factory is to be completed over a period of twenty years, with the first construction phase to be completed by the end of this decade. Micron expects to start construction of the plant in 2024.

Earlier, the chip manufacturer announced that it wanted to invest in new factories in the United States. Last month, Micron announced that it is investing $15 billion in a new factory in the US state of Idaho.

The investments are part of a government-backed plan to produce more chips locally. The US government will release more than $50 billion in subsidies to chip manufacturers who invest in new factories in the United States with a new law. In this way, the US wants to be less dependent on other countries when it comes to chip production.
