Michael Bay working on Duke Nukem movie
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Pictures plans to release a Duke Nukem movie. Director Michael Bay will produce the film and former show wrestler John Cena is in the picture as the lead actor. A director and scriptwriter are still being sought.
Paramount Pictures has hired Platinum Dunes to create a film based around Duke Nukem. Platinum is the production company set up by director Michael Bay, along with Andrew Form and Brad Fuller. The project is still at an early stage. Bay is looking for a scriptwriter. It is not yet clear who will direct the film. There is already a protagonist in the picture: wrestler John Cena, multiple heavyweight world champion in the WWE. It is not the first film in which Cena plays. He previously played in the two parts of Daddy’s Home and in Trainwreck. Cena has a physique that makes him well suited for the role.
Whether the film will actually come is uncertain. It is not the first time that a film about the action hero is being worked on. Paramount took over the rights from Dimension Films, which until recently had an agreement with Gearbox Software, the game studio that acquired the rights to the action hero in 2010 after a controversial transaction. The deal between Dimension and Gearbox has since expired, because the film company did not complete the project within the planned time. When the contract with Dimension expired, Paramount took over. It is unknown until when Paramount will have time to complete the film.
