Meta is developing an AI system that will allow users to create virtual worlds based on descriptions. CEO Mark Zuckerberg showed a prototype of the system at an online Meta event.

During the event the company showed a demonstration of how the system should work. The idea is that with the help of artificial intelligence, users can shape a VR world by describing the world. For example, the so-called ‘Builder Bot’ should be able to reveal a beach environment when the user asks for it, or adjust the sky if other clouds are to appear.

The pre-recorded demo shows Zuckerberg adding trees, furniture and an extra island to the virtual environment. According to the CEO, no actions need to be performed for this, except to say what you want to add to the world. It is unclear whether the things he adds during his demonstration are actually generated by AI.

The intention is that this Builder Bot can soon be used in Meta’s Horizon, the VR environment of Meta, which the company calls a metaverse. It is still unclear when the Builder Bot can be tested by users of Horizon. Zuckerberg showed the Builder Bot as proof of concept at this stage.
