Meta is making a price reduction for its VR glasses. The 256GB version of the Quest 2 gets a price drop from $500 to $430. Last year, the price of the headset rose from $ 400 to $ 500. The price of the Quest Pro released in October drops from 1500 to 1000 dollars.

Meta says it wants to make the VR hardware “affordable for as many people as possible.” The price reduction of the Quest 2 will take effect on March 5 and that of the Quest Pro on March 15, so the company announces. The price of the 128GB version of the Quest 2 will not change. With a price of $ 400, the price difference between the two versions is only $ 30. It is not yet clear exactly what the new European prices of the headsets will be.

In July 2022, Meta announced that the price of the Quest 2 would increase by $100. The price of the 128GB version was then brought from 350 to 450 euros. With the 256GB variant, the price increased from 450 to 550 euros. The price increase would have been necessary at the time because the costs to produce and ship the VR headset had increased.

The successor to the Quest 2 is expected later this year. The Quest 3 would be thinner, more powerful and more expensive than the current model. According to a leaked roadmap that would have been presented to Meta employees, cheaper VR glasses in the Quest series will also be released in 2024. A successor to the Quest Pro is reportedly still waiting.
