Meta adds 3d avatars to Instagram, Facebook and Messenger

Meta introduces 3d avatars that users of its apps can now use to display themselves on the various social platforms. For the time being, it only concerns users in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Meta already had a way of creating an avatar of yourself to use in the company’s various apps. These avatars are offered as stickers in Messenger, for example. Now it is possible to make a 3d version of this avatar. These can then be used to show an animated version of yourself in Instagram Stories, for example.

If you have previously created an avatar at one of Meta’s services, it will be automatically transferred to a 3d version. You can then adjust this to your own liking. It is planned that this functionality will be available to users in all countries in the coming months.

The 3d avatars were previously presented during a presentation by Meta, in which the company presented its ambitions for the metaverse. The company changed its name from Facebook to Meta to further emphasize these ambitions.
