Meta: 1 million active subscriptions to Instagram creators

For more than a year, Instagram users have been able to subscribe to creators active on the platform. In this way, creators on the platform can in principle be paid by fans. Meta reports that there are now more than one million of these paid subscriptions.

Through the subscriptions, Instagram creators can earn revenue by showing exclusive content to paid subscribers. Because the subscriptions have recently been released in more countries, there are now more than one million active subscriptions to Instagram creators. That is only a small number of the total number of users. Instagram has approximately 2 billion monthly users. For comparison: Patreon, the donor platform founded in 2013, has more than 8 million monthly users.

At this time, Meta does not deduct any money from the amounts Instagram creators earn from subscriptions. The tech giant says it plans to do this in the future. Creators can also offer subscriptions on Facebook. Meta did not share figures on the total number of Facebook creator subscriptions. The tech giant recently started its own subscriptions. From 10 euros per month, users will not see advertising on Facebook and Instagram. Personal advertisements have recently been banned for Meta by European regulators.
