Merging Wireless Charging Organizations

Spread the love

Two of the three major wireless charging organizations, the Alliance for Wireless Power and the Power Matters Alliance, have decided to merge. The organizations should merge in mid-2015, which should promote the development of wireless charging products.

The merger follows a year of intensive cooperation, according to the two organizations. A year ago, the Alliance for Wireless Power and the Power Matters Alliance announced that they would make both standards compatible. With the merger into the Rezence standard, the competition between the two standards will come to an end.

The A4WP technology is based on magnetic resonance. Devices do not have to make direct contact to charge wirelessly and different devices with different energy needs can be charged simultaneously. PMA focuses on the development of induction, whereby the device to be charged must be placed in a specific place on the charging surface.

The two standards now jointly face the competing Qi standard from the Wireless Power Consortium. HTC, Samsung, LG and Nokia, among others, made devices with support for induction charging based on the Qi standard.
