Mercedes shows EQS SUV with range of up to 660 kilometers
Mercedes has presented the EQS SUV, the SUV version of the EQS liftback. The batteries and electric motors are similar to those of the liftback, but the SUV is larger and can be equipped with an extra row of seats. The first cars should be delivered in Europe at the end of this year.
The EQS SUV comes in three different specifications and always has a 400V-107.8kWh battery, just like the liftback. The SUV comes as a rear-wheel drive EQS 450+, with 265kW or 360hp of power and 568Nm of torque. The EQS 450 4Matic has four-wheel drive and just as much power, but with 800Nm more torque. The EQS 580 4Matic is currently the most powerful model, with four-wheel drive, 400kW or 544hp and 858Nm.
The 450+ model will have a WLTP range of up to 660 kilometers due to the lack of an additional four-wheel drive engine. The other two models can drive a maximum of 613 kilometers on a full battery. That battery can be fully charged in a maximum of 10 hours with a 22 kW three-phase charger. The cars also support fast charging up to 200kW, then it takes 31 minutes to charge the battery to 80 percent full. The 450+ can drive 250 kilometers after 15 minutes of fast charging. The EQS liftback can travel 770 kilometers with the same battery.
The EQS SUV is 5,125 meters long, 1,959 meters wide and 1,718 meters high. The wheelbase is 3,210 meters. This makes the SUV 10 centimeters shorter than the liftback, a few centimeters wider and 20 centimeters higher. The SUV can also be equipped with an extra row of seats, so that the car offers space for seven passengers.
Like the liftback, the SUV can also be equipped with the MBUX Hyperscreen, a screen that consists of three panels. In the liftback, this has a diagonal of 56″. For example, the passenger gets a 12.3-inch OLED to view ‘dynamic content’. The car can see through cameras when the driver looks at this screen and then dims this screen. MBUX, the operating system of the car, has an octacore CPU and 24GB of memory. The EQS SUV will receive support for ota updates, allowing drivers to get additional features from the car, some for a fee.
The EQS SUV is made in the United States. According to AutoWeek the first cars have yet to be delivered in Europe this year. It is not yet known how much the EQS SUV should cost.
