Mercedes-Benz will release the EQB, which was previously introduced in China, in Europe later this year. The two editions of this SUV that will be released initially, both have a range of 419 km, according to the manufacturer.

In Europe, the Mercedes-Benz EQB comes with engine powers of 168 and 215 kW. In both cases, the stated range is 419km according to the WLTP standard. That is based on a 66.5 kWh battery. Other versions are also coming, including a long-range version that will have a longer range. The manufacturer does not provide any further details about this.

With the internal charger and alternating current, the battery can be charged with a maximum power of 11 kW, but that increases to 100 kW in the case of direct current with a fast charger. In that case, the battery can be charged from ten to eighty percent in just over thirty minutes. There will also be a version with a charging capacity of more than 200 kW, but that significantly higher fast charging capacity will not be available with the two versions that will initially be released in Europe.

The EQB, which can be considered as a competitor of, for example, Tesla’s Model Y and the Volkswagen ID.4, is in fact an electrified version of the GLB, a seven-seater. The EQB will be available as a five- and seven-seater. The seven-seater has an additional row with two folding, individual seats, which offers space for passengers with a maximum length of 1.65m.

Production of the EQB will begin in October at two locations: at the Hungarian Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét for the European and global markets, and via the German-Chinese joint venture BBAC in Beijing for the Chinese market. The batteries come from Mercedes’ own battery factory in Kamenz, Germany and Jawor, Poland. The manufacturer has not yet announced prices. The cars should be released in Europe sometime at the end of this year.
