Mercedes-Benz introduces EQE electric sedan with a range of up to 660km

Mercedes-Benz introduced the EQE during the IAA Mobility fair. This is a fully electrically powered sedan that can be considered a less expensive and slightly more compact version of the EQS. The EQE has a stated maximum range of 660km.

Daimler says the range under the European WLTP standard will be between 545 and 660km. This bandwidth is related to different versions that will be released, with probably different engine powers. The manufacturer only talks about a battery pack with a capacity of 90 kWh. It is emphasized that the cobalt content in the ten battery modules has fallen to less than ten percent thanks to NMC cells in which nickel, manganese and cobalt are present in an 8:1:1 ratio.

The EQE can be charged quickly via direct current with a power of 170 kW. With a fast charging station, the battery should be able to be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 32 minutes and a range of 250 kilometers should be possible after 15 minutes of charging. With alternating current, the EQE can charge up to 22kW, although the user must then opt for an optional, more powerful on-board charger. As standard, the car can handle 11 kW AC charging.

The interior of the EQE is very similar to that of the EQS. For example, the MBUX Hyperscreen is visible. This screen consists of three panels with a total diagonal of 56″. The whole extends over almost the entire dashboard. This gives the passenger his own 12.3-inch OLED screen with which he can operate the car or view entertainment.

Production of the EQE will take place in Bremen, Germany for the world market and in Beijing for the Chinese market. The Chinese production is in the hands of the German-Chinese joint venture BBAC. Production in Bremen should start in the not too distant future, with the first cars available later this year. The manufacturer has not yet released a price.
