Mercedes and Rivian will set up a joint venture to produce electric vans together. The two companies want to share the costs to increase production of electric vans. That production will take place in Europe.

The two automakers have signed a memorandum of understanding on a strategic partnership. A joint venture must then arise from this. According to the two companies A new production hall will be built ‘in a few years’ time at one of the Mercedes-Benz production sites in Europe. Mercedes itself speaks of a site in “Central or Eastern Europe”, but does not share any further details about the location or size of the factory to be built.

Two types of vans will initially be built: one on Mercedes’ MB Vans Electric Architecture platform and the other on the second-generation Rivian Light platform. It is not known when the first delivery vans will roll off the production line.
