Meizu will release MX4 smartphone with Ubuntu Touch in early 2015
The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Meizu expects to be able to deliver devices with Ubuntu Touch as the operating system in the first months of 2015. Among other things, the recently announced MX4 would be released during that period and run Canonical’s operating system.
Meizu announced the MX4 at its own event in September, but the release date has gone unnamed. The operating system was previously called the Android-derived Flyme OS, but there were already rumors at the time that Meizu would release smartphones with Ubuntu Touch.
GSM Arena now dares to state that the MX4 will be released in the first months of 2015 and will run Canonical’s operating system. It is unclear whether that will be at the expense of Flyme OS or whether two models will be released. The allegation follows news that Meizu and Canonical have struck a “strategic deal” with each other. At the beginning of 2015, the Chinese manufacturer would deliver the first devices with Ubuntu Touch. However, it is unclear which models are involved.
The MX4 was already presented a few months ago. The smartphone has a 5.4″ screen with a 15:9 ratio. The screen has a resolution of 1920×1152 pixels, which gives a pixel density of 414ppi. The specifications also show that the MX4 runs on a Mediatek MT6595 soc and that the gpu is an Imagination PowerVR6 Rogue.
