The Chinese manufacturer Meizu has shown its smartphone MX4 for the first time at its own event. The device has a 5.4″ screen with full HD resolution and an aspect ratio of 15:9, where almost all other smartphones have 16:9 screens.

With its wide 5.4 “screen, the phone is around 75 mm wide, partly because the screen edges on the sides are 5.2 mm, narrower than on almost all other smartphones. About 74 percent of the front of the device is screen. The screen has a resolution of 1920×1152 pixels, so the screen would have 414ppi, almost as high as that of high-end devices from competitors like the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z2. The screen would produce up to 600 nits of light, which would be enough to be able to read it in daylight if the reflections are limited.

The MX4 runs on an octa-core processor with four Cortex A17 cores at up to 2.1GHz and four Cortex A7 cores. This is the Mediatek MT6595 soc, according to the specifications. The GPU is an Imagination PowerVR6 Rogue. The housing is made of aluminum.

The smartphone has a 3100mAh battery and a camera with a maximum resolution of 20.7 megapixels. It is the same camera module that Sony uses in its recent Xperia Z devices. The device runs on Meizu’s Android-derived Flyme OS. The 16GB version of the MX4 will cost 223 euros in China, the 32GB variant 250 euros. Recently, there have also been rumors about a Meizu smartphone with Ubuntu Touch, but Meizu kept its lips together.
