The Mega Man franchise is getting its first live-action movie. It will be directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schuman. The duo has worked on a few of the Paranormal Activity films and the documentary Catfish, among others.

Capcom reports that the film is intended for a diverse audience, both for fans of the games and for action movie buffs. The Japanese publisher has hired Chernin Entertainment to produce the film, in collaboration with actor Masi Oka. Chernin has produced recent Planet of the Apes films, among others, and Oka is known for the Heroes series, in which he played the character Hiro Nakamura. No details have yet been released about the release date, the story, or any actors attracted.

The original Mega Man series is nearly thirty-one years old. The first game was released on December 17, 1987 in Japan as Rockman. Mega Man 11 was released on October 2, 2018 for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Windows. More than eight years have passed between the release of Mega Man 10 and Mega Man 11; the former came out in March 2010.
