MediaTek will use Nvidia GPUs in its Dimensity Automotive chips. The two companies announced this during Computex 2023. MediaTek will develop automotive SoCs and integrate an ‘Nvidia GPU chiplet’. It is not yet known when the first soc in this series will appear.

MediaTek will integrate ‘an Nvidia GPU chiplet’ into its upcoming Dimensity Automotive SoCs, the two companies wrote on Monday. That chiplet will be based on ‘Nvidia’s AI and GPU IPs’ and will be connected to a ‘fast chiplet interconnect’. With the switch, MediaTek will also use Nvidia’s Drive OS, Drive IX, CUDA and TensorRT software in its car chips, including for infotainment and safety functions.

The exact model names and specifications of the SoCs and the GPUs used are not yet known. For example, it is not clear on which GPU architecture the chiplet will be based or how many CUDA cores it will have. The press release does state that it is an RTX GPU. The chips will eventually be added to MediaTek’s Dimensity Auto series. MediaTek does not say when the first Dimensity Automotive chips with Nvidia chiplet will appear.

For the time being, the collaboration specifically concerns the development of automotive chips. There were recently rumors that MediaTek also wants to release smartphone chips with Nvidia GPU, but this is not discussed during Computex. It is not known whether the two companies will introduce such SoCs for phones later.
