MediaTek will release 5G soc for midrange smartphones early next year
MediaTek will present the Dimensity 800-soc early next year. That will be a cheaper variant of the previously announced Dimensity 1000. Like the top model, the new soc will have an integrated 5g modem, presumably only for low frequencies.
MediaTek has briefly mentioned the arrival of the Dimensity 800, reports the Chinese IT Home. The chip manufacturer would like to present the new soc at CES early next year, and devices containing the soc should be released in the first quarter of the year.
Details about the Dimensity 800 has not yet been disclosed by MediaTek. The manufacturer does say that it contains a 5g modem. The Dimensity 1000 announced a month ago also has an integrated 5G modem. That modem cannot handle mmWave frequencies and it is likely that the same applies to the cheaper soc.
Earlier this week, Oppo announced the Reno3 containing the Dimensity 1000L. To what extent that soc deviates from the Dimensity 1000 is also not yet known. That soc has four A77 cores at 2.6GHz and four A55 cores at 2GHz. The GPU is a Mali G77 and the chip is made at 7nm.
