MediaTek has announced its MT8195 soc. This chip is intended for Chromebooks and is made on a 6nm process. The company is also showing a lower positioned 7nm chip for Chromebooks and a Dimensity 700 soc for 5g smartphones.

The MediaTek MT8195 is made on TSMC’s 6nm process. The chip has four more powerful Cortex-A78 cores and four more efficient A55 cores. The manufacturer does not currently mention clock speeds. MediaTek also provides the chip with a Mali G57 GPU from Arm. The MT8195 also has quad-channel Lpddr4X memory with a speed of 2133 megatransfers per second; the amount of memory is not known. The chip also offers support for Dolby Vision HDR and can decode hardware AV1 videos.

The MT8192 is very similar to the MT8195, but it is produced on a 7nm node. Also, the MT8192 uses less powerful A76 cores instead of the A78 cores in the higher positioned chip. The GPU remains the same, as does the used quad-channel Lpddr4X memory at 2133MT / s.

MediaTek also writes that the MT8192 can power a single 1440p screen at 60Hz or a 1080p screen at 120Hz. The chip can also handle two full HD screens. The company speaks of the MT8195 of ‘support for three screens’, but no resolution or refresh rate is mentioned. Both chips support USB 3.2 gen 1 with transfer speeds of up to 5Gbit / s and PCIe 3.0.

Dimensity 700-soc with 5g for smartphones

MediaTek also shows a Dimensity 700 soc for smartphones. This 7nm chip is equipped with two Cortex-A76 cores at maximum 2.2GHz and six A55 cores with a clock speed of up to 2GHz. This means that the new chip is clocked higher than the Dimensity 720, which was announced in July. The soc also has a Mali G57 GPU and Lpddr4X memory support.

The smartphone chip also supports 5G frequencies up to 6GHz, with theoretical downlink speeds of up to 2.77Gbit / s. The chip also supports dual SIM dual standby SIM cards. According to MediaTek, the smartphone chip also supports dualsim-5g.

The manufacturer also mentions various camera functions. The soc must be able to handle cameras with a resolution of up to 64 megapixels. A setup with two 16-megapixel cameras is also supported. MediaTek also mentions support for screens with a resolution of up to 2520×1080 pixels and refresh rates of up to 90Hz, Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1. The first smartphones with a Dimensity 700 chip should appear on the market in the first quarter of 2021, Android Authority writes.
