MediaTek Introduces Helio P25 Soc for Dual Camera Smartphones
MediaTek has announced the Helio P25. It is a mid-range octacore soc that, according to the manufacturer, is made for Android smartphones with a dual camera. The chip has an image processor that can process images from two 13-megapixel cameras.
The dual-isp of the Helio P25 can process images with a resolution of 24 megapixels when a single camera is used. Furthermore, the chip supports video recording in 4k resolution of 3840×2160 pixels with up to 24fps. There is support for dual cameras with color sensors and for variants with a monochrome sensor. Huawei has already released a number of smartphones with a dual camera where one camera only takes black and white photos.
The Helio P25 is made on a 16nm finfet process and has two clusters with a total of eight cores. In both cases, these are cores based on the ARM A53 architecture. In one cluster they are clocked at a maximum of 2.5GHz while the other cluster uses cores with a speed up to 1.6GHz. The GPU is a Mali-T880 MP2 at 900MHz. According to MediaTek, this is suitable for smartphones with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels.
There is support for up to 6GB of lpddr4 memory or 4GB of lpddr3. For storage, emmc flash memory can be used. According to MediaTek, smartphones will be released with the Helio P25 soc in the first quarter of this year. What those are is not yet known.
