‘MediaTek Dimensity 9300 SoC is faster than Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’
A Chinese leaker has released more details about a prototype of the Dimensity 9300. One of the chip’s four Arm Cortex X4 cores is said to run at a clock speed of 3.25GHz. The Dimensity 9300 is also said to be faster than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, but less energy efficient.
According to Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 also has four Arm A720 computing cores. The mobile GPU is a Mali Immortalis G720, which contains twelve computing cores and lpddr5t memory. Lpddr5t memory can reach speeds of up to 9.6Gbit/s. That’s about 13 percent faster than Lpddr5x memory. Digital Chat Station did not provide any further details about the GPU.
Digital Chat Station claims that this Dimensity 9300 prototype performs better in benchmarks than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, in both CPU and GPU tasks. It is not clear how much power the SoC consumes, but the leaker seems to indicate that MediaTek’s chipset is less energy efficient.
At the beginning of September, leaker Evan Blass indicated that the Dimensity 9300 is currently still running too hot to achieve the promised performance. According to Blass, MediaTek may have to reduce clock speeds to somewhat limit heat production.
Taiwanese processor designer MediaTek has not yet officially announced the Dimensity 9300. The previous SoCs were always announced in the autumn. Qualcomm will present its latest SoCs on October 24, 2023. This probably includes the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
Update, 12.40 pm: Added additional paragraph with context about the Dimensity 9300 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoCs to the article. Thanks to tedades.
