MediaTek introduces its Genio 700 soc. This Arm chip has eight cores and is intended for use in smart home devices and industrial equipment. The chip will be available in the second quarter of this year.

The MediaTek Genio 700 is produced by TSMC on 6nm. The SoC has two Cortex-A78 cores at 2.2GHz and six more efficient A55 cores at 2.0GHz, in addition to an integrated Arm Mali G57 MC3 GPU. MediaTek also provides the chip with Lpddr4x support and an AI accelerator that can perform int8, int16 and fp16 calculations. According to the manufacturer This accelerator delivers a maximum of 4 peaks.

According to the manufacturer, the chip supports 4K screens and Full HD displays, both at a maximum of 60Hz. The Genio 700 also receives support for PCIe 2.0, USB 3.2 Gen 1, Gigabit Ethernet and a Mipi-Csi interface for cameras. The chip can optionally be equipped with Wi-Fi 6 and 5G support. MediaTek states that the Genio 700 is intended for use in smart home devices, retail equipment, and industrial devices such as IoT gateways.

The Genio 700 gets further Arm SystemReady– and PSA Certifications. MediaTek states that the SoC offers a lifespan of more than ten years. The chip supports Android, Yocto Linux and Ubuntu. The first devices with a Genio 700 SoC should appear later this year. MediaTek says the SoC will be commercially available in the second quarter.
